This about page is about this website, but also, as the website is named pretty much with my name, it is, to some degree, also about me.
A little about me
I’m Robin Scott. About a decade ago, I added the middle initials to clear up any confusion with a plethora of other Robin Scott’s living and dead, imagined or otherwise, who may exist out there. I say “I added the middle initials” but of course, the original inspiration for using these came from my parents, who gave me middle names beginning with these letters, so any credit I do take is purely vicarious. This hilarious website makes next to no sense now, since in Feb 2025, I removed the middle initials, and 301 redirected robinjescott.com to here, robin.scott.ventures and removed the middle initials.
A website… and several others
So this is my website. I built it using open source software, because I like open source software, and have been working with it professionally since about 2004/05. I have been running this profile for more than 10 years – since May 2007 – but before I created that profile, I was building business projects in WP for a few years as a lone wolf, or rebel without a profile.
I helped to setup Silicon Dales, where you may hire developers, particularly eCommerce developers.
A few years ago, along with an investor, and through Silicon Dales Ltd, I bought the assets from Welcome to Yorkshire Ltd, which had gone into Administration. Silicon Dales Ltd turned that business into Yorkshire.com (International) Ltd, while I was Managing Director of both companies.
In September 2024, I stopped being a Director of both companies, as I had for more than a year been leading an exciting project primarily for one company which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange. I was offered the opportunity to continue that work, signing a multi-year contract in August 2024, and stopped being a Director in order to focus on this project.
The project is highly ambitious, and led by an innovative and forward thinking leadership team. It allows me to put my many years of open source software leadership to the test operating at the bleeding edge in a sector that matters: education.
I am still a consultant for and shareholder in Silicon Dales Ltd; where relevant I will weigh in on our projects over there. I’ll still be popping up from time-to-time at Open Source conferences, usually in the cafe.
